Jonathan EATON was the son of John EATON 1636-1694 and Alice UNKNOWN _-1694. He was born on 3 Sep 1681 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts.

Paid taxes in 1702 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts when he was 21 years old.

Removed to Woodstock, Windham Co., Connecticut and bought some land there. This part is now in Putnam, Windham Co., Connecticut.

According to Barbour Collection, Vital Records of Connecticut, Town Woodstock,1686-1854: this record reads
"Jonathan Eaton Entered his Intention of Mariage with Lydiah Starr of dedham Nov. 30th: 1705."

Jonathan and Lydia attended the church in Woodstock, Windham Co., Connecticut until a new church was established in Killingly in 1730. He was chosen as its first deacon of the new church.

The area in Killingly where they resided was sectioned off from Killingly is known as Putnam today. Putnam, originally known as Aspinock, was part of the Town of Killingly, was created from sections of Killingly, Pomfret, and Thompson in 1855. It was named in honor of Revolutinary War General Israel Putnam.
