Dr. Jennie Van Holland Baker, one of the best known women physicians of this city, and one of the founders of the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Political Equality League and of the National Woman's Party, died at her home, 512 Bedford Ave., this morning. Dr. Baker was in her 80th year and had been active until her last illness, which began about a fortnight ago. Dr. Baker was born at 245 S. 5th St., the only daughter of the late James and Eliza Jane Harned Van Holland. She lived at that address until the purchase of the Bedford Ave. home about 40 years ago, where she had resided since. Takes Up Medicine Dr. Baker did not take up the study of medicine until after the
death of her husband, the late Mills Baker. . There was one child, who died a month after Mr. Baker's death. Mrs. Baker then entered the New York Medical College and Hospital for Women, founded by her aunt, Dr. Clemence S. Harned Lozier, and took her degree in 1882. For many years Dr. Baker was president of the staff and senior surgeon at the
Memorial Hospital for Women and Children in Brooklyn. She was a charter member of Chiropean. She was a lifelong Universalist, and had been a member of the Church of Our Father for the past 15 years. She was an extensive traveler and made many trips abroad. Dr. Baker's only brother, Henry- Van Holland, died last November.
The funeral will be held in the home, Saturday night, and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Sunday.
