Joe was preceded in death by his parents George F. Dorsey and Sarah M. Schoonover, infant son Charles and first wife Antha Workman Dorsey.

Joe (Smoky Joe) Dorsey Dies in New York Hospital
WHITESVILLE, Nov. 9 - (Special) - Joe (Smoky Joe) Dorsey, 47, of Orgas, Boone County, died late Saturday in a New York hospital of injuries received in a mine accident a year ago.

He was a former southern West Virginia professional baseball player, having pitched in the old Twi-Light League here and later played professionally in and around Cleveland, O.

Dorsey lost a leg when he was run over by a mine motor at Highcoal and later suffered a lung ailment. He has been hospitalized at Memorial Hospital in New York since the accident.

He was president of the United Mine Workers local at Highcoal and a member of the Presbyterian Church there.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Dorsey; three sons, Bobby Joe, Harry and Emory Clark; three daughters, Jo Ann, Rosalie and Mary; three brothers, Jim, George and John; six sisters, Mrs. O. E. Nichols and Mrs. Thomas Christy, both of Charleston, Mrs. Jack Austin, Mrs. Ed Snyder, Mrs. Clay Slick and Mrs. Jonas Davis, all of Cleveland, O.
