He was born, Dennis Clifford Olson, on October 22, 1949 at Benson, MN., the son of Harris and Mary Ann (Schuelke) Olson. The family moved to a farm north of Bradley in the early 1950s. Dennis attended all 12 years in the Bradley School graduating with the Class of 1967. He then attended the Lake Area Technical School at Watertown and received a degree in Auto Mechanics. Dennis then moved to Aberdeen and became a police officer for the City of Aberdeen. On August 1, 1969 he enlisted in to the Army and became a member of the 101st Cavalry Division. He was honorably discharged in August of 1971. While in the Army, he received numerous medals including the Bronze Star and had obtained the rank as Sgt.

It was in Aberdeen that he met, dated, fell in love with and married Sharon Backous. They were married on June 29, 1973 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. Following their marriage they moved to Watertown where Dennis trucked for various companies including Arrowhead Trucking and Miracle Span Trucking. He then purchased his own rig in the mid 1970s and began Dennis C. Olson Trucking. The couple moved to an acreage in Thorp Township, near Bradley, where he farmed and trucked from that location until moving into Clark in July of 2001. He sold his trucking firm to his son, Chris in March of 2007.

Dennis was not one to sit and watch the grass grow, when he put his mind to something, whether it is a new business venture or playing golf with the grandchildren, his whole heart and soul went into it. Dennis had been in different business ventures over the years in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. In the community, Dennis was a member of the Larry F. Hartman American Legion Post #108 of Bradley, Clark County Riders, Thorp Township board, Clark School Board and various trucking associations including the South Dakota Trucking Assn. and the OOIDAA Owner Operator Independent Truckers Assn. He was a longtime member of St. Michaels Catholic Church.

Besides his love of the land, he also enjoyed hunting, vintage automobiles including racing his Chevelle at Marion, SD, riding his Harley, and could be seen on the Clark golf course a time or two over the summer, especially helping his grandchildren. All of his grandchildren were his life, his pride and joy.

Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife Sharon of Clark, children, Chris (Theresa) Olson of Watertown, Jennifer Olson of St. Peter, MN, Nicole (Justin) Wagner of Clark and Casey (Melissa) Olson of Bradley, a brother, Don (Susan) Olson of Bradley and 12 grandchildren, Branden, Allisen, Maycie, Kendall, Ryder, Journey, Torri, Reagan, Jada, Corbin, Waylan, Weston and a baby of Nicoles soon to be born.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harris and Mary Ann Olson.
