Served in Co. A, 77th Pennsylvania Infantry.
The son of John & Nancy (Charlton) Craig, he married Catherine Ann Stewart March 21, 1850, at Middle Spring, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and fathered James S.(b. 10/30/50), John C. (b. 04/01/53), Daniel D. (b. 01/27/55), William L. (b. 10/27/58), and Henderson (b. 06/26/62). In 1860, he was a shoemaker living in Fannett Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5'6" tall with sandy hair and gray eyes.

He enlisted in Chambersburg, Franklin County, September 1, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 2nd, and died of dysentery in an army hospital at Tullahoma, TN, where he was initially buried.

His middle name is also cited as "Henderson."
