John Herman Swenson immigrated to this country around 1886 from Sweden with his wife Louise and their children. Their children were Oscar, Swen R., May, Robert, Anna, Esther, Ellen, and Charles. When he and his wife Louise were on the train from New York to Rockford, all they had in their possession for food was a box of ginger snaps. It is assumed that like so many Swedes who came to Rockford and like his children that he worked in some capacity in the furniture business. The cause of his death in 1902 is unknown.
