Janie M. Stephens of Oxford, died June 1, 2009, at the age of 82. Mrs. Stephens loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, and playing board and card games, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Alison M. Payne; parents, Henry Ross and Eva Lou Crawford Deerman; two sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include her husband, Elwin S. Stephens ; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Jimmy Payne of Blairsville, Jean A. Bush of Oxford, Tommie and Dana Myers of Ft. Pierce, FL; grandchildren, Melissa Cornuet, C. Leanne Goodman, Jennifer E. Cobb, Travis B. Myers; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Keshon, Ryan, Kalah, Aiden; sister, Frances Fells of Gadsden, AL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Ann Deerman, John and Shelby Deerman, all of Covington; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Stephens will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009, 11 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Rd., with Rev. Jimmy Hammond officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park.
