It is believed Vilmos left Hungry about 1956, three months after his son, Vilmos Fekete Jr., was born. At that time, the great revolution against the Russian empire was taking place in Hungary and because of his involvement, Vilmos had to escape the country. His family didn't know much about him for nine years until they found out he died in British Columbia. Vilmos worked in the mines and was killed, along with others, in the Granduc Mine Disaster in February 1965. (Thanks to his son for this bio and the photos sent to me in 2015.)
From Contributor: DLangfor (47327827): Granduc will never be forgotten. It may not be clear when you first enter town why all the now-empty homes and apartments were built, anybody in town will tell you the story. And if you take the drive to see the Salmon Glacier, you'll get an up-close look at the conditions that were faced to construct the Granduc Mine, and that miners and engineers still face in the North. Anybody who used to work at Granduc, or who just has an interest in the days when the mine was operating, is invited to the Granduc Mine Alumni Group at Facebook.
