Rachel Morris Henley, age 97, wife of the late George Jackson Henley, died February 27, 2007. She was born October 10, 1909, daughter of William Warner Morris and Mary Benton Woodard Morris of Fayetteville and Nashville. Survived by niece Janet Keese Davies of Nashville, nephew George William Rogers of Columbia, SC., great nephew George William Rogers, Jr. of Washington, D.C., great-nieces Louise Rogers Slater of Columbia, S.C., Connally Davies Penley of Nashville, Lisa McMillan Chorman of Fairport, NY, Melanie Smith Piccolo of Chattanooga, TN and several great-great nieces and nephews. The family appreciates the care given by the nurses from Alive Hospice, the staff at The Blakeford, and especially by Jennifer Taylor in recent years. A graduate of Peabody College, she taught school for thirty years, starting with her first five at the Robert E. Lee School in Fayetteville. Her twenty-five years teaching in Davidson County includes years at Harpeth Valley, Woodmont, and Stokes, as well as seventeen years at Hillsboro High School where she taught English and was College Counselor, retiring in 1972. For over sixty years she was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Fayetteville at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2006, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert P. Richardson and the Rev. Carson Salyer. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
