Beulah May Shoup Dains, Gooding, ID, 90, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, at the North Canyon Medical Center with family at her side.
Beulah was born in Bushong, KS, on February 16, 1920, the third child of six children. Her parents were Harry John Shoup and Maude Frank Shoup.
She married Ervin Ace "Rusty" Dains on her 18th birthday, Feb. 16, 1938. They shared 63 years together before Rusty's passing in 2002.
They moved to Idaho in the mid-1940s, settling in Gooding at that time. Beulah and Rusty's fifth child, Delbert contracted polio at 4 months of age. In 1954, Delbert was chosen National Poster Child for the March of Dimes. Beulah traveled all over the United States with Delbert that year. She was fortunate to meet several famous people in her travels, including Walt Disney, John Wayne, and President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Beulah was a hard and valued worker, having many careers during her lifetime. She worked in beet and potato fields during her early years in Idaho. She worked several years as a waitress, a store clerk, and then at the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind in Gooding for 15 l/2 years until her retirement.
Beulah is survived by three sons and their spouses, Danny (Ginger) Dains and George (Marsha) Dains, all of Gooding, and Richard (Carma) Dains of Jerome; one daughter Deanna (Gary) Beer of Gooding; two brothers, Roy (Gloria) Shoup and Cleo (Bernice) Shoup, all of Gooding. She is also survived by 14 grand-children, 24 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters; one brother; a daughter, Darlene Kloiber; a son, Delbert; a grand-daughter Leta Dains; and a great-grandson, Jesse Adams.
The funeral was held April 9, at Demaray Funeral Service, Gooding Chapel.
