Sherry was born Grace Katherine Blake in Madison County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Joseph and Phebe Poore Blake. She and her sister Bessie Leora Blake Rumier Call were both elusive about their birth dates. After the death of her first husband in CA she returned to TX where she and Bessie are living together in the 1940 Census in Tarrant County, TX. Jasper Shiver was a boarder at the home she owned in Fort Worth, they married in 1953.
