Opal Ruby Adkins Hunt Bohreer, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at her home. Born Dec. 4, 1923, in Fletcher, she was the daughter of Arvle and Gertrude Summers Adkins. She attended school in Sterling. She worked in Portland, Ore. shipyards as a welder and Seattle Wash. as "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. Then she worked in civil service in 1950 on Guam, rebuilding the islands after the Japanese occupation. She married Martin D. Bohreer and moved to McAlester. She started as an assistant credit manager of Sears Roebuck & Company, then later became manager and was known as "Mrs. Sears" and always referred to it as "My Store." She retired after 27 years. She worked for Jack Southard at McAlester Inn and again retired. Her most important job was working as a volunteer at First Baptist Church where she was known as "Bag Lady Bohreer of the Baptist Basement." Health forced her to retire again. Survivors include one son, Jerry Leon Hunt; two brothers, Arvle Jr. and Dwain Adkins; one sister, Janie Turney; grandchildren, Jerry D. Hunt, Jay M. Hunt, Billie Jean Williams, Carmalita Bentz and Jennifer Murray; 12 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin David Bohreer; three sisters, Pauline Oakley, Gladys Clemons and Mary Lou Kelly, and one son, George Dwain Hunt. She requested her service and burial be attended by family only.
