Born at Mechanicville, NY, Ludwig was the first child and son of Rupert Amann (formerly of Hohenems, Vorarlberg, Austria) and Friedricka (Schafer) Amann (formerly of Selgenstadt, Germany). He was the grandson of the late Ludwig and Theresia (Brotzge) Amann of Hohenems, Austria, and George C. and Rosine (Schleebach) Schafer, formerly of Selgenstadt, Germany.

He was the oldest of his two brothers, Karl William Amann of Colonie, Albany, NY, and Albert Francis Amann of Mechanicville, NY.

Ludwig married Teresa Elizabeth Holland on Wednesday, June 2nd, 1937, in St.Paul the Apostle's Church, North Main Street, Mechanicville.

Ludwig and Teresa became the proud parents of two sons, Ludwig A. Amann, Jr., PhG, RPh., and Dr.George T. Amann, DDS, and grandparents of 10 grandchildren and 11 great grand children.

In the 1940's, he served as Captain of the J. L. Short Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 of the Mechanicville Fire Department and as the company's Treasurer for many years afterward. After 47 years of exemplary service as a Marine Engineer, he retired from the NY State Dept. of Transportation at Waterford, NY.

He is interred beside his wife in Section C of (new) St. Paul's Cemetery, in Mechanicville. His calculated age is 77 yrs, 3 mos and 3 days.

For the genealogical record, Ludwig's paternal grandparents are the late Ludwig and Theresia (Brotzge) Amann of Hohenems, Vorarlberg, Austria. They are thought to be interred in Saint Anton's Cemetery at Hohenems. His maternal grandparents are George Charles and Rosine (Schleebach) Schafer formerly of Selgenstadt, Germany; they are interred in Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville, NY, Section, Vw.
