She was born April 15, 1921, at West Middlesex, Pennsylvania to Walter Price and Francis (Dunlop) Phibbs.
After graduating high school, she went to college for two years and then nursing school for three years, becoming a registered nurse.
She was united in marriage to Dr. Howard R. Elliott. He preceded her in death in 1976. She then married Darrell M. Ray. He preceded her in 2007.
Mrs. Ray worked as a Registered Nurse at Youngstown Hospital and SEK Headstart, where she was the Director of Medical Activities for 20 years. She retired in 2000.
She lived in Youngstown, Ohio, Pittsburg, Kansas and Fort Scott, Kansas before moving to Joplin, Missouri. Membership was held in the First Presbyterian Church at Fort Scott, Kansas; the Daughter's of the Nile; and PEO. Survivors include a son, George F. Elliott of Sydney, Australia; a daughter, Sally Ann Borello of Joplin, Missouri; two step-sons, Steven Ray of Tulsa, Oklahoma and David Ray of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; a step-daughter, Judi Ray of DeSoto, Texas; two grandsons, three great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a daughter Pamela Toombs, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Toombs.
