Civic leader. Known to generations of Southington residents as "Jiggy" (a family nickname), he was active in a variety of aspects of the community. He was a founder of the Southington Little League, organized in 1949, and was the District 5 Connecticut Administrator for 15 years. He was also a founder of the Southington YMCA in 1928 and until his death carried YMCA gold card #1. In his later years, he was a member of the Y Senior Citizens Club. He was active in sports as a youth, playing football and basketball locally and he was a boxer during his stint in the U.S. Navy. An usher at the Yale Bowl for 50 years, he was a life member of the Sons of Italy and was active with numrous civic and fraternal organizations. He received the first (and only) Lifetime Achievement Award from the Friends of Southington History in 1996. He was bestowed the award while in the hospital in September 1996. He died 10 days later. He also was the grand marshal of the 1992 Southington Apple Harvest Festival Parade. For his contributions to the YMCA and the community, the gymnasium at the Southington YMCA is named in his honor.
