Cynthia Jane McKinney, 74, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2008.

She was born on August 3, 1933, in Sabetha, the daughter of William Russell and Lucile Vickrey Davis. She grew up in Morrill, KS and moved to Topeka in 1941. She attended Potwin Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High and Topeka High School. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1951 and shortly after, worked as a secretary there. She attended Washburn University, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. On August 15, 1953, Cynthia married E. Gene McKinney at Lowman Methodist Church. They lived for a short time in Warner Robbins, GA, while Gene served as a JAG officer in the Air Force. The remainder of her life, Cynthia lived in Topeka. Cynthia was a past member of the Junior League of Topeka, the Topeka Art Guild, Artists Associated, the Topeka Bar Auxiliary, the Washburn Alumni Association, the Washburn Ichabod Club, and Delta Gamma Alumnae of Topeka. Being an avid golfer, Cynthia was also a past member of the Kansas Womens Golf Association and the Womens Golf Association of The Topeka Country Club. She had been a member of Lowman United Methodist Church since Pearl Harbor Day, 1941.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gene.

Survivors include her children: Susan McKinney of Lees Summit, MO; Craig McKinney, and Nancy McKenzie of Topeka. Cynthia is also survived by eight grandchildren and a brother, William Russell Davis, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Lowman United Methodist Church. Graveside committal services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Morrill Cemetery, Morrill, KS. Mrs. McKinney will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Lowman United Methodist Church, 4000 S.W. Drury Ln., Topeka, KS 66604.
