Carroll Russell King Fay, died Tuesday at Allen Morgan Health Center after a brief illness. A noted and stylish equestrian of both the hunting field and the show ring, Mrs. Fay was long active in many social and civic circles, and was an award winning horticulturist and floral designer. Mrs. Fay was particularly proud of winning the Memphis Garden Club's top award, the Norfleet Trophy, in 1983. A native Memphian, she was the daughter of the late Edward P. Russell and the late Carroll J. Russell. Mrs. Fay was a graduate of St. Catherine's School in Richmond, Virginia; Holton Arms Junior College in Washington, D.C., and Connecticut College for Women in New London, Connecticut. In addition to the Memphis Garden Club, she was a member of the Junior League of Memphis, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Memphis Botanic Garden, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis Country Club, The University Club, The Antiquarians, and Memphis Symphony League. In Carnival Memphis, she served as a past chairperson of the Cotton Parade and was instrumental in bringing such world renowned musical groups as The Dukes of Dixieland to Memphis. She was also a member and former duchess of The Grand Krewe of The Memphi. Mrs. Fay, the widow of William Fitzgerald Fay, leaves a daughter, Kathryn A. King of Memphis; a son, E. Frank King III of Piperton, TN, and three grandchildren, Christopher M. King of Knoxville, TN, Kelly L. King of San Diego, CA and Morgan F. Fite of New Brunswick, NJ. Visitation will be 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday, August 3rd at Canale Funeral Directors. Services will follow at 10 a.m. with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
