JOYCE C. SUMPTER, 89, of Salisbury, MO died Monday, July 8, 2013 at her home. Joyce was born February 16, 1924 in Moberly, MO the daughter of Carl and Hattie D. (Johnston) Haynes. Joyce married Orville Noah on September 28, 1940 and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1958. She married Joseph W. Sumpter on June 2, 1961 in Moberly, Missouri and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2012.
Joyce was a homemaker and self employed beautician. She was a member of the Salisbury First Christian Church. Joyce was active in the Girl Scouts for 15 years, and the Library Board for 9 years.
Joyce is survived by two daughter's Dee Gray of Walnut Grove, MO, and Carla Hatfield(Mark) of Salisbury, MO, grandchildren Lauren Hatfield of Kansas City, MO,, Devon Hatfield of Maryville, MO, Mike Gray of Walnut Grove, MO, Dennis Gray (Tami) of Ash Grove, MO, great grandchildren Trinity Gray, Levi Gray, Nakayla Gray, Brandon Ludwig, nephews Bob Underwood of Moberly and Carl Underwood-Preston. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers W. Sims Haynes, Joe Kenneth Haynes and sister Agnes Akers.
Memorial services are Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Salisbury with inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery in Moberly. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salisbury First Christian Church or the Salisbury Farmers Market. Arrangements under the direction of Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury.
