Elizabeth Day was murdered on February 8th or 9th, 1699. She was found by her neighbor on the morning of Feb.9 in her bed, in a pool of her own blood, with her husband, Thomas Day, in the house saying he didn't know what happened, but that she had died 2 hours before sunup. There had obviously been a terrible fight and she had been beaten to death. Thomas Day was indicted for murder, but acquitted, and in 1700 John Smith was executed for the murder of Elizabeth Day. Many believe that Thomas Day murdered his wife, despite the acquittal. They had one child, Elizabeth Marie Angelique Day who was probably an infant at the time of her mother's death. Elizabeth's maiden name is unknown. Elizabeth and Thomas Day lived in Farnham Parish in Essex County and she is probably buried in an unmarked grave on their land.
