John Harvey Wheeler arrived in East Bloomfield, Ontario County, NY, when five years of age. He married Betsey A. Lee, a native of East Bloomfield, born in March 1795. Betsey was a daughter of Amos Lee, a native of Massachusetts, and one of the first settlers of East Bloomfield.

Mr. Wheeler was an active Republican, but did not seek office.. He was a strong temperance man, and assisted largely in building the Baptist and Universalist churches at Baptist Hill.

The children of John Harvey and Betsey Wheeler were: Eliza A., Hannah B., Cyrus S. H., Nathan H., Carintha M., Charlotte A., Roxana L., Harvey M., Henry O., John B., Sarah S., and Emily M.
