Joint Funeral To Be Held For Barfields
Elderly Couple Dies Of Accident Injuries
A Joint funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon for Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Barfield, Leavell Woods, who died as a result of an accident Jan. 14 near Rayville, La.
Mr. Barfield, 80, died Wednesday and Mrs. Barfield, 76, Friday, at St. Francis Sanitorium, Monroe, La. At the time of the accident, they were returning with their daughter, Mrs. D. R. Weaver, from a visit with relatives in Marshall and Joaquin, Tex. Mrs. Weaver was seriously injured and has been moved to Baptist hospital, here.
Mr. and Mrs. Barfield were natives of Texas and lived in that state for 30 years. In 1923 they moved to Bethesda Community near Crystal Springs where they lived for 25 years. For the past five years, they have made their home with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Harris, 220 Carolyn avenue, Leavell Woods. Mr. and Mrs. Barfield were the oldest members of the Leavell Woods Methodist church. He was caretaker of the building.
On Dec. 30, 1950, the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and Mr. Barflield's 80th birthday.
Four children survive: N. M. Barfield. San Diego, Calif.; Homer D. Barfield, Crystal Springs; Mrs. D. R. Weaver and Mrs. G. M. Harris, both of Jackson; 13 grandchildren; six-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. One brother, R. P. Barfield, Marshall, Tex., survives Mr. Barfield. Mrs. Barfield leaves three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Buckner, Beaumont, Tex.; Mrs. Bud Smith and Mrs. H. J. Lewis, Joaquin, Tex.; three brothers. D. R., R. S., and W. F. Rhamyes, Joaquin, Tex.
Services will be held from the Daniel Memorial Baptist church, Terry Road, at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. J. S. Conner will officiate assisted by the Rev. W. W. Bevel, the Rev. J. E. J. Ferguson, the Rev. T. B. Winstead, the Rev. W. E. Todd and the Rev. W. F. Whaley.
Interment will be in Bethesda church cemetery, Crystal Springs.
Remains will be at the home of Mrs. G. M. Harris, Leavell Woods Saturday morning.
