FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Mary Emily Quillen, 82, of Route 1, passed away Sunday morning (Dec. 9, 2001) at her residence.

She was born in Scott County on May 11, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Patrick Monroe Begley and Rosa Ellen Estep Begley.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Quillen was a member of Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hazel J. Quillen in 1994; sisters, Captoley Baker and Nancy "Nannie" Collett; brothers, Charlie Melvin Begley, Orbin Begley and Robert "Doc" Begley.

Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Shirley) Harper, Hiltons, Va., Ms. Shelby J. Castle, Nickelsville, Va., and Ms. Myrtle B. Carter, Ft. Blackmore; sons, James Carles Quillen, Hobart, Ind., and Bobby Delmar Quillen, Kingsport; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carrie Mellons and Beaulah Powell, both of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Eckel Herron, the Rev. Robert "Buddy" Legg and the Rev. James (Teb) Carter officiating.

Music will be provided by Dorothy Hicks and Ricky Mann.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carter Cemetery in Ft. Blackmore.

Serving as pallbearers are Steve Carter, Louie Castle, Matt Quillen, Chris Quillen, Keith Quillen, Mack Quillen and Darren McDowall.

Nephews and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will meet at the funeral home at 12 noon on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
