U.S. U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II

William C. Haddox, 89, of New Brighton, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehab in South Beaver Twp.

Born August 12, 1923, in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Eugene and Vera (Holzworth) Haddox. He graduated from New Brighton High School in 1941 and went on to attend Youngstown State University for one year prior to entering into the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served as a tail gunner in an A-20 from 1942 to 1945. He completed over 30 missions in the South Pacific during World War II.

He married his wife Helen in 1947. He went on to earn an Elementary Degree from Geneva College and a Master's Degree from Westminster College. He had a 30 year career as a teacher and administrator in the New Brighton School District, retiring in 1985. He proudly served as the trainer of the New Brighton Football Team and was inducted into the New Brighton Sports Hall of Fame.

As a proud citizen of New Brighton, he served on the New Brighton Council, was Recreation Director, a member of the New Brighton Lions Club and also a Scout Master. Both he and his wife were active members of Park Gate Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Helen D. Haddox; three sons and daughters-in-law William E. and Mary Jane Haddox , New Brighton, Thomas W. and Lori Haddox, New Brighton, and Douglas A. and Shelley Haddox, Negley, OH; eight grandchildren, Benjamin (Jennifer) Haddox, Nate (Joelle) Haddox, Casey Haddox, Shawn (Melinda) Haddox, Lindsay Haddox, Joshua Haddox, Cara Haddox and Gabe Haddox; seven great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Edward Haddox, Ohio, and Richard Haddox and his wife Glenna, New Brighton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son at age one month, Robert Lee Haddox, in 1948; a brother, Melvin Haddox, and a sister, Lillian Bandurak.

Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in the CAMPBELL'S NEW BRIGHTON FUNERAL HOME, 1133 Penn Ave., www.campbell funeralhomes.com, with Pastor David Childs of the Park Gate Baptist Church officiating.

Private interment will be in Grove Cemetery, New Brighton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made if desired, to the Park Gate Baptist Church, 2840 River Road, Koppel, PA 16136.

Military honors will be conducted by the Veteran's Honor Guard at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
