March 19, 1931 - July 28, 2013

Westlake - Louis Joseph "LJ" Frederick, 82, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 in a local hospital.
Mr. Frederick was known as Papa J and the love of his life, Almeda Jean, was known as Mama J to family and many friends.
LJ most recently showed his love for AJ with her recent illness, where he stepped into a new role as caregiver, this being the last of a long list of occupations, talents, and endeavors.
LJ played half-back for Lake Charles High (grad. 1949) and at McNeese. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany, and was employed at City Service before he struck out on his own self-employment. He enjoyed many years of success in construction, demolition and dirt work. Fishing, river life and his McDonald breakfast buddies were daily mainstays of pleasure.
By far and away, LJ's outstanding qualities that will be remembered most are his dreams and schemes. He was the master rigger and king of his shop. He was an inventor, creator and fabricator. The forever optimist!
We loved him and will miss him.
He is survived by his wife, Almeda Frederick; son, Gary Frederick and wife, Keiko Frederick of San Francisco, CA; daughters, Sandy Stein and husband, Mike Stein of Westlake and Gloria McGuirt and husband, Dr. Rick McGuirt of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Heidi Brenchley, Matt Frederick, Shylah Guidry, Stephen Stein, David McGuirt, Lee McGuirt, Libby McGuirt and Molly McGuirt; great grandchildren, Henri Frederick, Emma Stein and Abbigail Stein.
His funeral will be 11am, Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. Deacon Fred Reed and Dr. Rick McGuirt will officiate. Visitation will begin Wednesday 5pm-8pm and resume Thursday 9am until service time. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens.
