Mrs. Bane Miller Straley, 98 of Eggleston passed away on Monday, November 12th, 2007 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek.

She was born in White Gate on October 3rd, 1909 and was the daughter of the late William Tobias and Ossie Virginia Bane Miller. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Chapman Straley; a son, Dr. Gerald Bane Straley; three brothers, Robert Miller, Joseph Miller, and W.T. Miller; six sisters, Mary Fanning, Frances Davis, Eliza Miller, Billie Miller, Lucille Miller, and Reba Brand.

She was a charter member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Pearisburg, and a former Sunday School teacher of Pembroke Lutheran Memorial Church. She taught in the public schools of Giles County before her marriage to her devoted husband, Charles Chapman Straley, who encouraged her in her hobby of growing, nurturing and hybridizing beautiful roses. She was a member of the American Rose Society for more than 30 years, and was a former member of the Giles County Historical Society.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Donald Chapman and Rebecca Straley of Eggleston; two grandchildren, Sarah Newbill and husband Tom, Patrick Straley and wife Lorinda, all of Christiansburg; five great-grandchildren, Paiton Elizabeth Newbill, Parker Rebekah Newbill, and Paxton Thomas Newbill, Erin Lorinda Straley and Chapman Patrick Straley; one sister-in-law, Lillian Harriett Straley; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 16th, 2007 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Linda Motley officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker?s Creek Valley Cemetery in the White Gate community of Giles County.
