Rachel (Curl) Swisher

Illinois Pioneer

In 1836, Rachel Swisher, a widow of 18 years, and 6 of her 8 children, along with other related families relocated from Ohio to the north-eastern part of Dewitt co., Illinois. Possibly, to this day, it is one of the most beautiful areas in that county. The settlement was soon to be known as Swisher, Illinois located just north of what today is Clinton Lake recreational area.
