Margaret Marie Brown of Charleston passed away Jan. 2, 2006, at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness.

Born Feb. 21, 1921, in St. Albans, she was the daughter of the late Hansford Allen and Mary Edna Hill Thomas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William S. Chapman Sr., who was killed in World War II, and Kenneth R. Brown, her second husband of 48 years. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Darlene Brown.

She was a retired cosmetologist and worked for numerous department stores in Charleston. She retired from Kaufmann's in 1994. She was a member of Kanawha United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, William S. Jr. and Susan Chapman; and daughter and her husband, Kendra Kay "Candy" and David Briles, all of Charleston; two brothers, Randall Thomas of Arlington, Va., and William Thomas of St. Albans; sister, Belle Childress of South Charleston; two granddaughters, Laura Anne Chapman and Margaret Vaughan Chapman of Charleston; stepgranddaughter, Keri Anne Griffith of Baltimore, Md.; grandson and his wife, John Eric and Jennifer Shaffer; and great-grandson, Donovan Gabriel Shaffer, all of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and special friends, Ron and Eunice Taylor.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor John Davis officiating. Entombment will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
