Elizabeth has passed away. Her obit,

Elizabeth “Betty” Bailey, 92, of Palestine, IL, died Monday, July 30, 2018 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL.

She was born October 12, 1925 in Ste. Marie Township, IL, the daughter of Henry Clayton Hanson & Mary Henrietta (Kirts) Hanson, both of whom preceded her in death. She married J. Henry Bailey on January 19, 1944, and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Murphy; by her sisters, Mildred Mendenhall and Ruby “Fern” Haines; as well as several brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Sue & Rick Richardson (Palestine, IL); by her grandchildren, Christian Seaney (Palestine, IL), Chad & Andrea Richardson (Boonville, IN), and Susann Murphy (Avon, IN); by three great-grandchildren, Drew Richardson, Katie Richardson, and Adyson Hines; by her brother & sister-in-law, Henry “Bud” & Pauline Hanson (Oblong, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Betty grew up in the Bend area, south of Oblong alongside her brother and sisters. She worked for a number of local businesses over the years: Nash’s Restaurant, United Savings & Loan, and Tuttle Grain, but was, by all accounts, a homemaker. Whether she was mowing her lawn or whipping up a pie, one thing was for certain: at home, she thrived.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family has lost not only a matriarch, but a friend in Betty Bailey.

A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 on Thursday, August 2nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with burial following in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Pastor Tim Watson will officiate services.

Memorials may be made to the Outer West Market Church of Christ or to the Palestine Food Pantry.
