NEWPORT NEWS - Elizabeth Curry Ruff departed this life on Friday, June 3, 2005, in Riverside Convalescent Center, Hampton. She was born in Newberry, S.C., on Aug. 16, 1924, to the late Spencer Curry and Esterleen Carter. Mother Ruff was a Newport News resident for more than 40 years and recently retired as a housekeeper from Ivy Baptist Church, Newport News. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Ruff; two brothers, William Orlander Curry and Benjamin Curry; and one sister-in-law, Queen Curry. She leaves to cherish her life, four sons, Clifton Ruff of Providence, R.I., Christopher Ruff of Newport News, Henry Ruff II of Sumter, S.C., and John Presley Ruff of Dover, Del.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Montez Curry of Hampton; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
