Funeral for Frank Wood Sr. 62, of Witcha Falls and father of Frank Wood Jr. of 15 Harvrd Pl. in Abilene will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sagamore Hills Baptist Church in Fort Worth under direction of Harveson-Cole Funeral Home in Fort Worth.
Mr. Wood died at 1 a.m. Friday in Wichita Falls after an illness of two years.
Born June 30, 1905, in Palo Pinto, Mr. Wood served as city manager of Wichita Falls from 1949 until 1952. He was known throughout the United States for his knowledge and love for racing pidgeons. He helped organize and served as president of the Texas Center of Racing Pidgeons Clubs which included Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. He was director of the American organization of the pidgeon union and was made a member of the Hall of Fame in 1967, the highest award ever given in this sport.
He was employed by the old Homeowners Loan Corporation! in the Federal Public Housing Authority for 15 years in Fort Worth and also served as assistant secretary with the Gift Savings and Loan in for 10 years.
He was a member of the Hemphill Heights Masonic Lodge of Fort Worth, the Moslah Temple Shrine of Fort Worth and the Lamar Baptist Church in Wichita Falls.
Survivors include his wife Mrs Doris Wood; two sons, Frank Jr. of Abilene and John of Paducah Ky.; one daughter Mrs. Jack Lane of Wichita Falls; seven grandchildren
