Vernon "Red" Baker

Vernon "Red" Baker, 70, Shelbina, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at his home.

He was born February 10, 1936, in Elmer, MO, the son of Vernon Leroy and Rhoda Biswell Baker.

He married Marilyn Ralls on November 12, 1966, in Shelbina, she survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Dawn Yochum, Monroe City, MO, Sherri Gooding, Columbia; one son, David Mack Baker, Granite City, IL, nine grandchildren, Drew and Michael Yochum, Brent and Matthew Baker, Shelby and Scott Gooding; Davie Hendren, Emily and Anthony Baker; four brothers, Raymond Smith, Kansas City, Larry Smith, Smithville, TX, Fred Haney, Middle Grove, and John Haney, Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Doris Thomas, OK; one step-sister, Wanda Dausman, Novelty; and other immediate family, Theresa Morgan, Helena Mayfield, Lucinda Palmer and James Vernon Baker.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Baker served in the United States Army and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shelbina. He was a supervisor for Conalco Spectra Lite for several years and had worked several years for Diemakers after retirement in 1998. He and his wife enjoyed fishing and taught all of their grandchildren how to fish. He was a loving and devoted husband and enjoyed spending his days with his wife and family.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 22, at 10:00 a.m. at Greening-Eagen-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina with Bro. Larry Smith officiating. Burial was in Shelbina Cemetery.
