His parents were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1840 and made the trek to Utah in 1851 in the Easton Kelsey Company.
They settled in Salt Lake City. Gus' father was a carpenter. Wilkinson died 16 Jan 1856 when Gus was three years old. His mother sold her home to Brigham Young and moved with her children to Springville, Utah, Utah. His mother, Matilda, married William Wordsworth in 1857.
The 1860 US census show him as Augustus Wordsworth in the household of William and Matilda Wordsworth in Springville, Utah.
The 1870 Census list him as a farm helper in the household of his brother William Streeper and wife Mary in Centerville, Utah. The marriage of Matilda and William Wordsworth didn't work out.
In later years Matilda married Apostle Erastas Snow.
Gus went to Idaho where he owned many acres of farm and ranch land in South East Idaho. He homesteaded in Antelope east of Ririe, Idaho.
(Charles A. Streeper of Antelope, Idaho who on April 21, 1915, made Homestead entry Serial No. 018245 for the SE 1/4 SW 1/4, S 1/2 SE1/4, Sec 22: SW 1/4 SW 1/4 Sec 23; NW 1/4 NW 1/4 Sec 26; N 1/2 NE 1/4, NE 1/4 NW 1/4 Sec 27, Township 2 North, Range 42 East, Boise Meridian, to make final 3 year proof. He raised many cattle and was considered a wealthy and sucsessful farmer in the area. He made several trips to Omaha and Denver selling cattle.
One summer day about 1895 a stranger to Margaret Hargraves Heyrend's children pulled into her backyard. He drove a span of fiery bay gildons. He unloaded flour, bacon, eggs, and canned goods, then went on. This stranger was Gus Streeper. What single mom trying to support a family wouln't love a man like that.
Margaret and Gus were married 18 Jan 1899. This made a wonderful new life for Margaret, as he provided for her and her children, and he enjoyed the wonderful meals she cooked for him.
Even though Gus never had children of his own, he was a father to Margaret's children.
Gus and Margaret moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho the later years of their lives. Gus died 21 Jun 1924 in Idaho Falls, Idaho and was buried in Salt Lake City, Utah.
