Bruce D. Fleming was born at Booth Memorial Hospital in Boston, MA January 2, 1943, the son of Lt. Colonels Irene and Hartwell B. Fleming. His parents were the executive officers of The Salvation Army in Portland, ME.

Shortly following his birth, his parents were transferred to Rochester, and then Concord, N H where he attended elementary school. In his teen years his parents were transferred to Wilmington DE and then Philadelphia where he graduated from Philadelphia Northeast High School.

Bruce had a career in electronics which began shortly after high school when he was employed at Technitrol Engineering in Philadelphia, working with the Air Force on the Gemini Project.

Bruce married Gladys Schramm in 1966 and both entered The Salvation Army Officer Training College in the Bronx, NY. They had three children, Ronald, Dawn, and Sean.

After fourteen years' serving with The Salvation Army, Bruce worked for General Dynamics Electric Boat Division in Groton, CT for eighteen years. He was a sonar electrician working on construction of the country's nuclear submarines.

In 1993 Bruce married Lorraine Carroll-Morris and after retirement from Electric Boat, they served as officers (ministers) in The Salvation Army in Ohio and PA. He previously served as Administrator of The Salvation Army Day Center in Dorchester, MA and Assistant Administrator of The Salvation Army Booth Hospital in Cleveland, OH.

Bruce was a skilled photographer. His other hobbies included building model ships and making crystal radios. While an officer in The Salvation Army he was an active participant in the Masonic Lodge in Lowell, MA and the Shriner's in Boston. Bruce will be greatly missed as an active member of the Old Orchard Police Department Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS).

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, and sons Ronald (Heike), of Cornwall, PA; Sean of Philadelphia, PA, and daughter, Dawn Zibragos of Mt. Airy, MD., his sisters Linda (Bruce) Poole, Landenburg, PA; Martha Fleming of Newark, DE and brother, David, Montville, PA. He also is survived by three ‘inherited' daughters, Lori Starmer, Mt. Vernon, OH; Kimberly (Travis) DeLong, Pittsburg, PA, and Jaymie (John) Miller of Troy, NH. He also is the grandfather of eleven children including Martin and Jessica Fleming, Kyle and Joseph Zibragos, Norah Fleming, Jordan and Olivia Starmer, Zachary, Emilee, Jayson, and Ava DeLong and two great grandsons, Bronson and Wade Starmer-Findley,

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Colonels Irene and Hartwell B. Fleming.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday July 31, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Salvation Army Citadel in Old Orchard Beach. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Corp. Graveside services at Laurel Hill Cemetery at 2:00PM.
