Doris Maurine Friesen, 87, died July 28, 2013 at Bethel Home in Montezuma.

She was born on June 5, 1926 in Great Bend, the daughter of Clarence Wesley and Opal Maurine (Boyd) McDonald.

Doris attended grade school at Prairie Home School in Stafford County. In 1936, she moved to Montezuma where she completed her schooling, graduating from Montezuma High School.

On August 3, 1947, she married Alvin Richard Friesen in Satanta. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1966.

Doris worked at Montezuma High School as a cook and later as the secretary.

She also sold Stanley Products, winning trips to Washington D.C. and California.

Doris loved to bake with her cinnamon rolls being one of many favorites.

She enjoyed ceramics, making nativity scenes for her children.

Doris was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for her family. She was very involved in the Montezuma community, helping at the Senior Center and church.

Doris loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was a member of the New Jerusalem Church of Pawnee Rock and also attended the Montezuma United Methodist Church.

Doris was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, LSA, and WSCS.

Doris is survived by four children, Judy Maurine Thomas of Cimarron, Joyce Colleen Morris of Overbrook, Alice Marie Bell and husband Ronald of Dodge City, and Dick Allen Friesen and wife Kimberly of Independence; one sister, Nadine Tuxhorn and husband Melvin of Dodge City; one brother-in-law, Dale Tuxhorn of Montezuma; one sister-in-law, Joan McDonald of Pueblo, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Vickie Campbell and husband Chuck, Jennifer Vierthaler and husband Mark, Aubree Chaffin, Kurtis Bell, Aryn Thomas, Dalton Friesen, and Colton Friesen; and three great grandchildren, Jacob Resor, Kolin Walker, and Charlee Chaffin.

In addition to her husband, Doris is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Dora Tuxhorn, Eva Darlene McDonald, and Vera Kinnamon; two brothers, Dale and Glen McDonald; an infant brother; and two sons-in-law, Tom Thomas and Phillip Morris.
