OBITUARY-
Raymond D. Riley, age 84, of Austin, died July 24, 2005, at his home.

Ray was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Joseph and Pearl (Cook) Riley, April 21, 1921. They moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, when he was very young. He was the oldest of 11 children. His youth was spent playing his beloved baseball.

Ray joined the Navy in 1942. He spent 3 1/2 years there, seeing action in the Philippines and Admiralty Islands in the South Pacific, after the service he played Semi Pro Baseball in Tarboro, N.C., Wilmington, N.C., Jackson, Tenn., and Three Rivers, Canada. Later, he and his brother-in-law, Earl Mossor, were invited to come and play ball in the South Minny League by Mr. Emil Scheid. Ray was employed by George A. Hormel and Co., for 38 years in the mechanical division. He was a sheet metal worker and welder.

Ray married Virginia Beck in 1947. They had three children: a son Thomas; and two daughters: Sharon and Michelle.

Ray was an avid sportsman. He loved all sports, mainly baseball, football, bowling and golf.

He belonged to Christ Episcopal Church, VFW Post #1216, Eagles and American Legion Post #91.

He is survived by his wife Becky, Austin; son, Thomas Riley, Austin; daughters: Sharon (Rick) Vivano, Eden Prairie, Minn.; Michelle, Minneapolis, Minn.; grandson, Shannon Chavez, Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers: William Riley, Covington, Ky; Edward Riley, Tampa, Fla.; J.F. JR, Tampa, Fla.; sisters: Dolores Mossor, Bethel, Ohio; Peggy Riley, Clearwater, Fla.; Patricia Cann, Hamilton, Ohio; Joyce Bono, Clearwater, Fla.; nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert, James, Charles; and best friend Earl Mossor.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with Father Scott Monson officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Austin. American Legion Post #91 and V.F.W. Post #1216 in charge of military rites. Visitation will be held at Clasen Jordan Mortuary on today from 5-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Organist will be Elaine Erickson and soloist will be Elaine Erickson.

Casket bearers will be Kenneth Bjerke, Dean Johnson, David Hunn, Thomas Riley, Shannon Chavez and Richard Viviano.
