William Edgar Brunson, 83, of Gulfport, Miss., died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his residence after a lengthy illness with cancer. He was born April 29, 1920, in Yalobusha County, Miss., to William Edgar Brunson and Rhew Rice Brunson. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and worked for the telephone company for 40 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Wesley Sunday School class and the September Club. He was well known for his love of football and hunting. Mr. Brunson was preceded in death by his parents, William Edgar and Rhew Rice Brunson; and a sister, Frances Brunson Green, who was of Grenada, Miss. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary T. Brunson of Gulfport; three children, William Rice Brunson and his wife, Angela L. Brunson, of Grenada, Michael Brooks Brunson of Baton Rouge and Ann Lanier and her husband, Mark R. Lanier, of Gulfport; and four grandchildren, Beth L. Wilson, Brad Lanier, Brook Brunson and Mary Lauren Brunson. Visitation for Mr. Brunson will be Friday, March 19, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15th St., Gulfport. The Rev. Ray Stokes will officiate for a Saturday, March 20, 2004, funeral service at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Grenada, at 4 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Kitchen Fund, 5007 Lawson Ave., Gulfport, MS 39507 or Memorial Hospice, P.O. Box 1810, Gulfport, MS 39501.
