Winchester, IN - Frederick W. Stephan, 90, of Winchester, IN passed away early Saturday morning, July 27, 2013 at Reid Hospital and Health Services of Richmond, IN.

He was born October 17, 1922 in North Star, Ohio the son of Louis and Clara Belle (Lanich) Stephan. He married Ethel M. (Wilson) Stephan August 10, 1947.

Fred honorably served in the US Army during WWII as a Staff Sargeant for Company A 53rd Armored Infantry Regiment, 4th Armored Divison (94 Infantry). He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, under General George S. Patton. He was a proud veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 274 of Lynn, IN and VFW of Greenville, OH.

Fred, a long time farmer of Randolph County, lived in Ansonia, OH before moving to Indiana in 1955. He had also worked in maintenance for the Frigidaire Company in his younger years. He was a past board member of the Versailles Poultry Producers and a member of the Lutheran Church of Winchester, IN.

He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Carol (husband, Mike) Denton of Lynn, IN; a daughter-in-law, Jackie (Weide) Stephan of Lynn, IN; a son-in-law, Jim Fetzer of Clarkston, MI; a brother, Delbert Stephan of North Star, OH; a sister, Arlene (Gerald) Sharp of Greenville, OH; sisters-in-law, Zo Ann (Kreitzer) Stephan of North Star, OH, Judy (McClure) Stephan of Arcanum, OH and Mary Catherine Wilson of Greenville, OH; grandchildren, Lanett Stephan, Jerimy Stephan (wife, Jami), Elizabeth Fetzer, Sarah Fetzer and Aaron Fetzer; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Kaibre Stephan; several nieces and nephews; a special friend and partner of 17 years, Thelma (Sander) Marker of Ansonia, Ohio; and her children, Dick and Charlotte Allen of CA, Wayne Beisner of Troy, OH, David and Sarah Beisner of AR, Dale and Diane Strong of Findley, OH and Greg and Shirley Amspaugh of Ansonia, OH.

He was preceded in death by his wife; children, Ronald W. Stephan and Connie J. (Stephan) Fetzer; brothers, Edward L. Stephan and Richard Stephan; sister-in-law, Helen Stephan; and a nephew, Curtis G. Stephan.

A service to celebrate Fred's life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn, IN with Pastor Dwight Kruger officiating. Burial will be in Spartanburg Cemetery of Spartanburg, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, August 1st at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) of Greenville, OH or the American Legion Post of Lynn, IN.
