He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on June 10, 1941, prior to the war, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as a Semiskilled mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

Alex became a Prisoner Of War of the Japanese Army and was held at the Hoten Pow Camp, Mukden, Manchuria.

Alex was one of 19 POW's "Killed In Action" when two bombs from an American B-29 stuck the camp.

He received the Prisoner Of War Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in the Hoten POW Camp Cemetery in China and was later repatriated here on October 29, 1947.
