Aaron, of Wilmington went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 29, 2013 while at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after sustaining injuries while he was driving a moped when he collided with a pickup truck in the 1000 block of North Third Street in Wilmington around 10:30 a.m. Those left to cherish his memory include his dad, Lindsey Alton Mathis; sister, Bailey Marie Gates and nephew, Grayson Gates; grandparents, Faye and Dave Decatur; special aunt and adopted mom, Sherry and Russell Rivenbark; aunt, Mariea and Danny Atkinson; mother, Marie Molloy and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leamon A. Mathis in 2004. Aaron was a free and joyful spirit with a true gift from God of musical talents. He played the drums and guitar with easy and excellence. Aaron was a loving and giving young man, always willing to share and help others. Most important in Aaron's life was family which he dearly loved. Treasured memories of Aaron will forever remain in our hearts. Aaron was an organ donor and his heart was able to save the life of another. He is very deeply missed.
