ST. IGNATIUS -- Darrell Dean Hayes, 68, of St. Ignatius died on June 25, 2003, at Westside Nursing Home in Ronan. He was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Menlo Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Florence (Armstrong) Hayes and Harve LeRoy Hayes.
He lived there until he moved with his parents to Montana. Darrell served in the US Army as a young adult but was primarily a lifelong musician. He was a fiddler who played in the local dance bands most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother, Edwin; brothers Glen and Boyd Burdett Hayes; and a sister Neva Elaine Crawford. Survivors include his sisters Sally Hubbard (Casey, IA) and Genevieve Kimmen (Adair, IA); a sister-in-law, Delores A. Hayes; nieces Katherine Dawson and Nelda Hayes (St. Ignatius), Sheila Hadley (Polson) and Debra Woodward (Missoula); and several other nieces and nephews.
