Gottlieb Frederich Bunz (Gottlieb Sr.), born 11 Feb 1810 in Denkendorf, Germany and died 5 April 1883 Logan Ohio married Eva Margareth Epple on 9 Feb 1836 in Denkendorf, Württemberg, Germany [GS Film number: 1056537
"Deutschland, Heiraten 1558-1929," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JHKS-55V : accessed 28 Jul 2013), Gottlieb Friedrich Bunz and Eva Margaretha Eppler, 09 Feb 1836]. Eva Margareth Epple Bunz was born 7 April 1810, Denkendorf and died 27 Aug 1887 Logan Ohio [JLBFH] Eva Margaretha's parents were Johann Jakob Eppler and Rosina Bunz [Ibid] Rosina was likely closely related to Gottlieb. Gottlieb and Margaret are living very near Logan Ohio in Hocking County in 1850. [1850 census: Falls, Hocking, Ohio. op. cit]. His occupation is listed as a farmer and he owns a farm worth $1,000. In 1850 Gottlieb and Margaret have six children, five girls, and one boy. They are Mary, Magadalena, Cestena, Elizabeth, Fredericka, and Gottlieb Jr. all born in Ohio. This suggests that they emigrated from Germany some years before his brother John Bunz. However, 1860 census records (and subsequent census data) state that Gottleib Jr. was born in Germany as were all his older siblings. Thus we conclude that John and Gottleib Bunz came together to America shortly before 1850 as is stated in the family history [JBLFH]. In the 1860 Gottleib Bunz was living now in the city of Logan with wife and seven children Mary Margaret, Hannah (Cestena in 1850), Recca (Frederika in 1850), Gottleib Jr., and three new children Mary, John, and Emma all born in Ohio between 1850 and 1860. In 1860 Gottleib owns property worth $5,000 and has $1,000 in personal possessions and is listed as a carpenter [Source Citation: Year: 1860; Census Place: Logan, Hocking, Ohio; Roll: M653_988; Page: 128; Image: 260; Family History Library Film: 803988]. In 1870 Gottleib and Margaret are still in Logan OH and have four children living with them, Gottleib Jr., and Mary, John, and Emma from the 1860 census. Gone are Mary Margaret, Hannah, and Fredericka. They would, if living, all been 25 years or older and likely married. Gottleib Sr. is listed as a stonecutter with land and personal possessions similar to the 1860 census [Source Citation: Year: 1870; Census Place: Logan, Hocking, Ohio; Roll: M593_1223; Page: 413B; Image: 80; Family History Library Film: 552722]. In 1880 Gotteib Sr. is living in with two daughters Mary age 28 and Emma age 24. He is listed as a carpenter and single (but actually widowed) [Source Citation: Year: 1880; Census Place: Logan, Hocking, Ohio; Roll: 1034; Family History Film: 1255034; Page: 226D; Enumeration District: 194; Image: 0173 ]. Gottlieb Sr. and his wife Eva Margareth are buried together in the Old Logan Cemetery in Logan OH [Burial information courtesy of Judy Bunz Lanning].
