Edna Throgmorton Phelps peacefully met the Lord at the home of her daughter, Emily, July 27, 2013 in Memphis. She was 88, and longtime resident of Paris, Tenn.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was married May 21, 1945, to Edgar Phelps and he preceded her in death March 28, 2013.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and formerly worked at the Mitchum Co. and also Salant and Salant. During this time she met her husband Edgar Phelps.

She was a wonderful cook and was known for her desserts. She was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed quilting and also playing the piano.

She is survived by her daughter, Emily Garthright of Memphis, TN; sisters, Lola Mae Nanney of Paris, TN, and Daulene Norwood of Memphis, TN; brother, Veltman Throgmorton of Paris, TN;

Grandchildren, Natalie (Brian) Cathey and Carson Phelps (Gwynn) Garthright; great-grandchild, Gabrielle Ann Cathey; and special niece, Amy Rose.

Mrs. Phelps, born in Henry, TN, April 26, 1925, was preceded in death by parents, Knox Henry and Lucy Crews Throgmorton, and two sisters, Betty Scott Lewis and Joy Sue Bruce.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St./P.O. Box 788, Paris, TN. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 and from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Ridgeway Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013; Dr. Trent Bullock will officiate.

Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery in Paris, TN.

Pallbearers will be Carson Phelps Garthright, John Thomas Rose, Charlie Rose, John Dale French, Brad Norwood, Paul Norwood, Scott Nanney and Kevin Nanney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Cathey, Kenneth Norwood, Dale Hastings, Troy Bruce and Gordon Owen.

Memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, 313 N. Poplar St., Paris, TN, or the charity of your choice.
