EMERSON O M'LEAN DIED WEDNESDAY
Head of Lean Manufacturing Company Passes Away At His Home In This City After Month's Illness

Emerson O McLean, President of the Rodrick Lean Manufacturing Company, died Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at his home, 454 Park Ave West, after having been in poor health for a year. His condition came to be realized as extremely serious about a month ago, since which time he has been confined to his home.
Mr. McLean had been a resident of Mansfield since 1874, at which time the manufacturing company established by his father six years earlier was moved to Mansfield. He was born in Canada July 8, 1861.
Following the completion of his education, he concentrated his time and energies to the mastering of the details of his father's business and in 1886 he was admitted to a partnership in the business. When the business was incorporated in 1893 he was chosen as president of the company.
Standing at the head of one of the city's greatest industries Mr. Mclean had come to be recognized as a power in the business affairs of Mansfield, and his death just at a time in life when it would appear he was entering upon an era of his greatest usefulness cannot be viewed with other than a feeling of greatest sorrow.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Ellen D, and two sons, Roderick and Emerson, also two brothers, Milton, who is in Washington state and A.B., who is Associated with the Lean Co. of this city, and three sisters, Miss Linna and miss Belle McLean of Boston and Miss Harriett McLean of Mexico City.
In a sketch of Mr. McLean in the recent edition of Richland county History it is said: " It is true that he entered into a business already established, but many a man of less resolute purpose and keen discrimination would have failed in an attempt to enlarge and control this. Rising above the heads of the majority there has always been series of individuals who by reason of their pronounced abilities and forceful personality have ever commanded the homage of their fellow man and have revealed to the world those two resplendent virtues of a lordly man -perseverance in purpose and a directing spirit which never fails. Such a man is E.O. McLean and his efforts have been of material benefit to the city."
