DR. C. E. CONGER EXPIRES SUDDENLY
Retired Physician Had Been in Poor Health for Some Time

Dr. Clement E. Conger, aged 60, retired physician and well known resident of Rockingham and Harrisonburg, died suddenly last night at 7:30 at his home at Peach Grove. Dr. Conger had been in feeble health for several years but his condition was not regarded as grave. For some months he had been coming to Harrisonburg twice weekly for medical treatment. He was a patient at the University of Virginia Hospital three months ago. Dr. Conger took a sudden turn for the worse yesterday and gradually sank away. He was virtually unconscious during the entire day but his death was unexpected and came as a great shock to his family and friends. He was born in Marietta, Ohio, on March 8, 1872, and came to Rockingham as a lad of seven years with his father, the late Charles C. Conger, Sr., who established his home at Cross Keys. After completing his medical course, Dr. Conger practiced for ten years at Cross Keys and another ten years at Pleasant Valley. He retired from his profession in 1913 and moved to Harrisonburg where he entered the automobile business. He resided here for one year and then returned to his farm at Peach Grove where he since has lived. Funeral services will be held from the home at one o'clock Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Walter Williams, rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be in the Cross Keys Cemetery. Dr. Conger is survived by his widow who was Miss Hallie Ramsay, of Alexandria; two sons, D. Ramsay and C.E. Conger, Jr., of Washington; a sister, Miss Grace Conger, of Harrisonburg; and three brothers, Charles C. Conger, Jr., Massanetta Springs; Gerald Conger, Penn Laird, and Carl Conger, Cross Keys.
