Lem W. Bennett, 89, of 318 Jefferson avenue died at 6 a.m. Thursday at a hospital in Alton.
He was born Aug. 26, 1886 in Franklin Tenn., son of the late Henry and Amanda Bennett. His wife, Helen McMurray Bennett, died June 5, 1942.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mary Hayes, Mrs. Geneva Hill and Mrs. Dorothy Spence of Edwardsville and Mrs. Zelma Moore of Madison; two sons, Lee Bennett, St. Louis, and James Bennett, Grand Rapids, Mich. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Sally Bradley of Franklin, Tenn. There are six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Mt. Joy Baptist church.
Friends may call at the residence, 318 Jefferson avenue, Saturday afternoon until 1 p.m. Sunday when the body will be taken to the church for 2 p.m. services. The Rev. Virgil Gardner will officiate.
Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery with the Straube funeral home in charge.
