Pagaling, Claudia Chen White Cable

Claudia, a resident of Santa Ynez, California, passed away on July 25, 2013 at home with family at her bedside following a long battle with cancer.

Claudia 's battle with cancer spanned more than a decade. She became a supporter of many battling cancer through her participation on the American Cancer Society chat forums and breast cancer discussion boards, providing advice and friendship to many throughout the nation. With phrases like "be stronger than, not angry at", kindred spirits, and "we do what we have to do so we can do what we want to do", her ferocious will to battle cancer and her courage in the face of her enemy was an inspiration to all that knew her.

She was born August 23, 1949 in Rockville Centre, New York to Homer and Mary Jayne Cable. Her family moved to Darmstadt, Germany in 1954 where her father served on the staff of the Stars and Stripes military newspaper. She graduated from Frankfurt American High School in 1967. She attended and graduated from Alice Eleanore Beruf Schule beauty school. Claudia moved to Santa Barbara, California in 1973.

In the 1980's and 90's Claudia lived in Long Beach, California where she first began caring for her 4 year old niece Siobhan. She raised her from kindergarten through 8th grade, some of high school and all of her recent college years. Claudia loved to volunteer her time at Siobhan's elementary school as a second grade teacher's assistant. Learning was always important to Claudia and she always emphasized preparedness with kind and loving guidelines. Naturally, they shared a mother-daughter relationship for over 20 years.

In 1999, Claudia met her soul mate Reginald "Reggie" Pagaling. They lived together for several years, raising three daughters and welcoming a granddaughter, before marrying in June 2011. During their years together, Claudia and Reggie participated in numerous activities supporting the Chumash Tribe and Native American causes, such as the annual Chumash Ceremonial Tomol Crossing to Limuw, known locally as Santa Cruz Island. Cancer awareness activities included marathons, Relay for Life events and a trip to Washington D.C to with other online members to represent the ACS. Reggie always found many opportunities take her on trips to escape daily life and they enjoyed many beautiful times away together. He misses her deeply and anticipates the time where he can join hands with her again as their souls walk in eternal love.

Claudia is preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Cable. She is survived by her husband Reggie, her daughters Siobhan Elyse, Jenna Pagaling, and Eva Pagaling, her brothers Richard and Jonathan Cable, sister Meredith Cable, sister Elizabeth Brown, and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren Aliyah, 3 and 1 month old Lukas.

A tribute service will be held for family and friends on August 17, 2013 at Ambassador Park in Santa Barbara, California. For those able, a service will be held on the water. Paddlers will meet 9:30am at the harbor. For those not desiring to paddle, a boat will be available in the harbor to join with the paddlers for the ceremony on the water. A reception will be held following the ceremony on the water at Ambassador Park until 2pm.

In lieu of sending flowers or other items, the family is requesting donations in honor of Claudia be sent to Mission Hope Cancer Center, 1325 East Church Street, Santa Maria, CA 93454.
