Joint funeral set Tuesday for slain teenagers

A joint funeral will be held Tuesday in Eugene for North Eugene High School students Lliana Adank and Eric Goldstrand, who were murdered Thursday at a picnic area southeast of Springfield.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. in Wesley United Methodist Church in Eugene. Miss Adank, 16, of 2887 Ava St., Eugene, will be buried at Rest-Haven Memorial Park and Goldstrand, 17 of 2994 Country Lane, Eugene, will be buried at Lane Memorial Gardens.

The two young people who were boyfriend and girlfriend were shot with a small caliber gun Thursday at the Forest Service Broken Bowl Picnic Ground on Fall Creek Road. Goldstrand was hit twice in the chest and Miss Adank was shot three times in the head and chest. The bodies were found early Friday morning at the picnic site near where Goldstrand’s pickup was parked.

Lane County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Ron Eggleston said Saturday evening that he did not anticipate making any arrests or breakthroughs on the investigation this weekend.

Ted Outcalt, Goldstrand’s stepfather, said Goldstrand had not been having trouble with his pickup, as reported in a Friday Eugene Register-Guard story about the murders. He said the pickup was never moved from where it had been parked at the campground. The truck was operable, Outcalt said, and some of the youths’ clothes and Goldstrand’s wallet were under the seat of the cab.

Survivors of Miss Adank include her adoptive parents, Gaylord and Virginia Adank; five stepbrothers, Leonard, Steve, Ritch and Rodney Kesey, all of Eugene, and Marvin Todd of Portland.

Goldstrand is survived by his parents, Donna Outcalt and Carl Goldstrand, both of Eugene; his brother, Daniel, of Eugene; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Morgan of Horton; three stepbrothers and a stepsister.
