Richard Gladden, one of the oldest citizens of Lauramie township, passed away at 9:15 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his son, Marcus P Gladden. Mr Gladden had been confined to the home of his son for ten days, and his death was caused by Bright's disease. He was born in Perry township, Montgomery county, Ohio February 1, 1818. His education was limited to four terms of three months each in a subscription school. His father died when Richard Gladden was 17 years old, and the responsibility of caring for the family devolved upon him. He was a lad of sturdy character, and assumed the obligation without flinching. When he came to Tippecanoe county to make his home in Lauramie township he purchased a farm of 40 acres, and added to it little by little until he controlled a well-improved farm of 260 acres. He was a Republican in politics, and served for three years as trustee of Lauramie township. Four children survive viz: Marcus P and William H Gladden, Mrs Emma Ellis and Mrs Ellsa Peters. A sister, Mrs Sarah Warwick of Indian Territory, and a brother, Jacob W Gladden of Yates Center, Kansas, are also living. Mr Gladden was a man of the highest integrity, and enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who knew him. The funeral will be conducted on Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev Franklin Mikels of Frankfort will officiate and the interment will be made in the Conroe cemetery.
