Author, naturalist, historian and folklorist.
Attended public schools in Brewer and Abbott Academy in Andover, Mass. Graduated Smith College (1888). Superintendent of schools in Brewer, Maine. Married Rev. Jacob Andreasen Eckstorm (1867-1899), an Episcopal minister, in 1893 in Portland, Oregon. (He was a brother of her sister Annie's husband, Christian Eckstorm) Two children, Katherine and Paul.

Returned to Brewer after her husband died. Became a prominent writer and authority on Maine Indians, folklore, ballads and natural history.
