Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary, 23 W. Fall Creek Blvd., Indianapolis. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville, with full military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Mr. Townsend, a native of Upland, was assistant chief for the division of land acquisition for the Indiana Highway Department. He had held that post since 1961 and prior to that served 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a colonel.
He was born in Upland and was a graduate of Upland High School and Purdue University. He was a member of the American Society of Appraisers, the Scottish Rite and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and was a deacon in the Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis.
Surviving in addition to the Hartford City brother, are his wife, Audrey, his mother, Mrs. Blanche Townsend, Upland; a daughter, Cathy, Louisville, KY., a son, James, Indianapolis; another brother, George, Upland; and two sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Vida) Pearson, Marion, and Mrs. Richard (Mary) Burks, Rockville, Md.
